Since its establishment in 1954, St.
Joseph Catholic School has dedicated itself to providing a rigorous
academic program and the continuous formation of the human person.
Religious development is integrated into the curriculum with
formal religion instruction at all grade levels. Weekly participation
at Mass, service projects, retreats, and other activities that
stress both personal and communal spiritual formation are nourished.
The educational curriculum serves children from age 4 in Pre
Kinder, and Kinder through 8th grade. In all respects, it meets
or exceeds the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills program. The
pre-school curriculum stimulates creative expression, early
development of reading and math readiness, and the cultivation
of social and interactive skills. Classes for older children
reinforce and expand on readiness skills and add important areas
such as listening, writing, science, problem solving, music,
art, speech, drama, computer skills, and physical education.
Spanish is taught Pre-Kinder through 8th grade. In addition,
the State Algebra I and Spanish courses are standard for 8th
grade students.
St. Joseph's extra-curricular programs in interscholastic activities
are open to students in grades 5-8. They include volleyball,
basketball, track, and soccer. Additionally, St. Joseph's is
a member of the PSIA (Private School Interscholastic Association),
which sponsors academic contests in private and parochial schools
of the nation.
Parent involvement is both encouraged and expected through the
St. Joseph Catholic School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization
(PTSO), classroom volunteers, and in the School Council, an
advisory group to the Pastor and Principal on school policy,
budget, and long range planning.
Teachers, instructional assistants, office workers, and other
support personnel work closely with parents and students. They
perform a true Christian ministry not only by sharing their
educational expertise, but also in nurturing the spiritual growth
of our school community.
Each school day begins with Morning Assembly, where the entire
school community gathers for prayer. Periodic open houses, PTSO
meetings, our annual Walkathon, and other special events foster
our unique and caring family environment.
